Land Acknowlegment:
I live and work on the original shared lands of Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, Dene and Anishinabek/Ojibwe peoples, and the homeland of the Métis nation. I respect the traditional territories of Treaty No. 1 and Treaty No. 2 and the homelands of the Dakota Nations. I personally recognize that Canada was built on the genocide of Indigenous peoples and that full acknowledgment of this truth is the only path to reconciliation. Please consider how you can contribute to reconciliation with the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island.
I have included this land acknowledgment as I'm working towards reconciliation with indigenous peoples. As an educator, I'm striving to include indigenous ways of knowing in the classes I instruct. I feel it is important to recognize that education has a role to play in reconciliation. As the Honourable Justice Murray Sinclar said "Education got us into this mess and education will get us out of it." (Anderson, 2016)
